The Proper Punter

The only thing that beats Gaelic Games is Gaelic Games with a bit of a sweat on it!

In this column we’ll be analysing upcoming fixtures every week with a view to bringing you some rational, well informed and above all profitable tips on the action.

Working with the philosophy that “knowledge is power”, our sports betting is built around a foundation of always striving to know more than the guy we’re betting against. With GAA as an absolute passion, it’s a given that we’ll be spending countless hours every week watching every piece of footage, reading every report and crunching the numbers on every available statistic to evaluate the most likely outcomes in as many games as possible.
Moreover, we’ll work hard on finding you the best value on the market. A point that escapes many recreational punters is that by backing an event at 10/11 when you could have gotten 11/10, you are effectively throwing away €20 on a €100 stake. To avoid such an ugly scenario, we will trawl through the websites of our favourite bookmakers to not only find you the best event to bet on, but the best place to bet on it.

On many weekends, the number of matches taking place is so large that a detailed statistical breakdown of all games may be too much information to digest. On these occasions we’ll provide you with the layman’s version of the rationale behind our views. Look out for quieter weekends, however, when the lack of action gives us the opportunity to take a closer look at the details that go into our selection making processes.

A word of caution – sports betting is the very definition of a long term game, so while week to week results may vary, keep in mind that it is the growth of the bank balance over months and even years that will tell the tale far more than short term fluctuations based on a better or worse than usual results over a small period of time. With this in mind, it is important to think about your bankroll, always keeping your bets sized to ensure that you can stand a variation in fortunes without doing the lot.

Finally, please don’t hesitate to contact us with your views and comments on any of our selections be it here, on Twitter or on Facebook. As steel sharpens steel, so too does lively debate amongst people with varying viewpoints serve to keep us all on top of our games.

Let’s make some money!
