A modern interactive take on important GAA stats

Johnny Giles used to be often heard on RTÉ’s soccer coverage quoting the phrase ‘there’s lies, damned lies, and statistics’.

However, statistics are now a vital part of how teams analyse opposition and monitor their own performances in every sport. Gaelic football and hurling, although still technically amateur in name, is no different.

When combined with innovative web design, statistics can be made to look pretty cool indeed. That’s what Eoin Kilbride has managed to do on his website.

Eoin is a graduate of Trinity College, where he did his MA in Interactive Digital Media. As he says on the website, “I am very interested in the visualisation of data, allowing users to explore, find patterns and ask questions about the information presented before them.”

He has created some excellent data visualisation templates for all of the All-Ireland final winners from 1887 to 2014. There are also graphs to show the top hurling scorers of all time, with Henry Shefflin out in front on 27-484.

These illustrations can be found below, and to see more of what Eoin Kilbride has come up with, check out his website
